Citizens of 2nd District Deserve to Know Where Both Candidates Stand on Issues

Steve Pearce, Republican candidate for Congress, challenged incumbent Democrat Harry Teague to appear with him at 10 town hall style debates in at least eight counties over the last two months of the campaign. These would be in addition to the traditional media-sponsored debates already proposed and give voters in several counties throughout the district the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from the candidates in a joint setting.

"The people of our district have the right to see their candidates in a side by side setting to find out exactly where both of us stand on the issues," Pearce said. "Ten debates in eight different counties would give the people of Southern New Mexico multiple opportunities to ask the candidates various questions, and make an informed decision."

"New Mexicans deserve to know where their elected officials stand on the issues. Do they share the same values as you, like a commitment to low taxes, creating jobs, reducing spending and producing affordable energy? Voters deserve to know the differences between the two candidates and who will truly act in their best interests," Pearce continued.

Currently the campaigns are negotiating with media outlets to conduct two or three formal debates during the last two months. Pearce has agreed to appear with and debate Congressman Teague at any time during the campaign.
